Andre threw the ball.

Andre = Subyek , Threw = kata kerja transitif / predikat, the ball = obyek

Bill plays piano every day

Bill = Subyek, plays = kata kerja transitif / predikat, piano = obyek.

Kata kerja TRANSITIF bisa diubah menjadi bentuk pasif :
  • The ball was threw by Andre
  • Piano is played by Bill everyday

Paula datang ..........
   S        V        O?

Bisa ?

Dalam bahasa Indonesia kata datang bisa diubah menjadi TRANSITIF dengan menambahkan awalan me dan akhiran i. Berubah jadi mendatangi / mengujungi. Dalam Bahasa Inggris Come = datang, sedangankan mengunjungi = visit. Come = INTRANSITIF, sedangkan Visit = TRANSITIF

Jim came to our house
The leaves fell to the ground
She did not agree with him
The airplane arrived at 7.00 PM

She did not agree wih him = Ia tidak setuju dengannya.
She approved the application = Ia menyetujui penawaran itu.

Jim came to our house tidak bisa diubah menjadi Our House was came by Jim

Abad kreatifitas (Kemarahan Arya Wiguna jadi lagu)

English Conversation 8 : Dialog Film "The Avengers"

Suka dengan film The Avengers ? Ini beberapa cuplikan dialognya :

Pepper Potts: Is this about the Avengers? Which I know nothing about.
Tony Stark: The Avengers initiative was scrapped, I thought. And I didn't even qualify.
Potts: I didn't know that either.
Stark: Apparently I'm volatile, self-obsessed, and don't play well with others.
Potts: That I did know.

Loki: I am Loki, of Asgard. And I am burdened with glorious purpose.
Selvig: Loki, brother of Thor.
Nick Fury: We have no quarrel with your people.
Loki: An ant has no quarrel with a boot.
Nick Fury: You planning to step on us?
Loki: I come with glad tidings. Of a world made free.
Nick Fury: Free from what?
Loki: Freedom. Freedom is life's great lie. Once you accept that, in your heart... [taps Selvig with the spear] you will know peace.
Nick Fury: Yeah, you say peace. I kinda think you mean the other thing.

Loki: [To crowd] Kneel before me. I said... kneel! Is not this simpler? Is this not your natural state? It's the unspoken truth of humanity that you crave subjugation. The bright lure of freedom diminishes your life's joy in a mad scramble for power. For identity. You were made to be ruled. In the end, you will always kneel.
Old German: [Stands] Not to men like you.
Loki: There are no men like me.
Old German: There are always men like you.
Loki: Look to your elder, people. Let him be an example. (Loki prepares to kill the man with his staff, but Steve Rogers saves the old man)
Steve Rogers/Captain America: You know, the last time I was in Germany, and I saw a man standing above everybody else, we ended up disagreeing.
Loki: The soldier. [laughs] A man out of time.
Rogers: I'm not the one who's out of time.

Rogers: Stark, we need a plan of attack!
Stark: I have a plan: Attack!

Romanov: I'd sit this one out, Cap.
Rogers: I don't see how I can.
Romanov: These men come from legend. They're basically gods.
Rogers: There is only one God, ma'am. And I'm pretty sure He doesn't dress like that!

Thor: [Throws Loki on the ground] Where is the Tesseract?!
Loki: [laughs] Oh, I missed you, too!
Thor: Do I look to be in a gaming mood?
Loki: [groans] Oh, you should thank me. With the Bifrost gone, how much dark energy did the Allfather have to muster to conjure you here? Your precious Earth.
Thor: [drops Mjolnir then grabs Loki] I thought you dead.
Loki: Did you mourn?
Thor: We all did. Our Father-
Loki: Your father. [shoves Thor] He did tell you my true parentage, did he not?
Thor: We were raised together! We played together! We fought together! Do you remember none of that?!
Loki: I remember a shadow. Living in the shade of your greatness. I remember you tossing me into an abyss. I who was, and should be, king!
Thor: So, you take the world I love as recompense for your imagined slights? No. The Earth is under my protection, Loki!
Loki: [laughs] And you're doing a marvelous job with that. The humans slaughter each other in droves while you idly fret. I mean to rule them! And why should I not?
Thor: You think yourself above them?
Loki: Well, yes.
Thor: Then you miss the truth of ruling, Brother. A throne would suit you ill.
Loki: [growls] I've seen worlds you've never known about! I have grown, Odinson, in my exile! I have seen the true power of the Tesseract, and when I wield it-
Thor: Who showed you this power? Who controls the would-be king?!
Loki: I am a king!
Thor: Not here! You give up the Tesseract; you give up this poisonous dream! You come home.
Loki: [smirks] I don't have it. [Thor raises the hammer] You need the cube to bring me home, but I've sent it off, I know not where.
Thor: Listen well, Brother. I-
[Iron Man knocks Thor off the cliffside]
Loki: I'm listening.

Thor: Do not touch me again.
Stark: Then don't take my stuff.
Thor: You have no idea what you're dealing with.
Stark: [Looks at the surrounding trees] Uh, Shakespeare in the Park? [About Thor's cape] Doth Mother know you weareth her drapes?
Thor: This doesn't concern you, metal man. Loki will face Asgardian justice.
Stark: He gives up the cube, he's all yours. Until then ... [Closes his helmet] stay out of the way. [Under his breath] Tourist.

Nick Fury: [Loki is sealed in the cell, Nick Fury shows the function to dump it from the helicarrier] In case you try to escape. If you so much as scratch that glass... [chute opens beneath the cell] Thirty thousand feet, straight down in a steel trap. You get how that works? [Gestures to Loki] Ant. [Gestures to console] Boot.
Loki: It is an impressive cage. Not built, I think, for me.
Nick Fury: Built for something a lot stronger than you.
Loki: Oh, I've heard. The mindless beast, makes play he's still a man. How desperate are you? That you call on such lost creatures to defend you?
Nick Fury: How desperate am I? You threaten my world with war, you steal a force you can't hope to control, you talk about peace, and you kill 'cause it's fun. You have made me very desperate. You might not be glad that you did.
Loki: Ooh. It burns you to have come so close. To have the Tesseract, to have power. Unlimited power. And for what? A warm light for all mankind to share? And then to be reminded what real power is.
Nick Fury: Well, let me know if 'real power' wants a magazine or something.

Rogers: Loki's going to drag this out. So, Thor, what's his play?
Thor: Loki has an army, called the Chitauri. They are not of Asgard or any other world known. They will win him the Earth, in return, I suspect, for the Tessaract.
Rogers: An army... from outer space.
Banner: So, he's building another portal. That's what he needs Dr. Eric Selvig for.
Thor: Selvig?
Banner: He's an astrophysicist.
Thor: He's a friend.
Romanov: Loki has him under some kind of spell. Along with one of ours.
Rogers: I want to know why Loki let us take him. He's not leading an army from here.
Banner: I don't think we should be focused on Loki. The guy's mind is a bag of cats. You can smell crazy on him.
Thor: Have care how you speak. Loki may be beyond reason, but he is of Asgard. And he is my brother.
Romanov: He killed eighty people in two days.
Thor: ...He is adopted.

Rogers: We have orders. We should follow them.
Stark: Following's not really my style.
Rogers: And you're all about style, aren't you?
Stark: Of the people in this room, which one is A) wearing a spangly outfit; and B) not of use?

Rogers: Big man in a suit of armor. Take that off, what are you?
Stark: Genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist.
Rogers: I know guys with none of that worth ten of you. I've seen the footage; you fight for nobody but yourself. You're not the kind to make the sacrifice play, to lay down on a wire and let the other guy crawl over you.
Stark: I think I would just cut the wire.
Rogers: Always a way out. You know, you may not be a threat, but you better stop pretending to be a hero.
Stark: A hero? Like you? You're a laboratory experiment, Rogers. Everything that's special about you came out of a bottle.

Romanov: Are you really that naive? S.H.I.E.L.D. monitors potential threats.
Banner: [surprised] Captain America is on threat watch?
Romanov: We all are.
Stark: [To Rogers] You're on that list? Are you above or below "angry bees?"
Rogers: I swear, Stark, one more wisecrack out of you...
Stark: Verbal threat! Threatening! I feel threatened!

Phil Coulson: [Dying, holding a very large gun] You're going to lose.
Loki: Am I?
Coulson: It's in your nature.
Loki: Your heroes are scattered, your floating fortress falls from the sky. [scoffs] Where is my disadvantage?
Coulson: You lack conviction.
Loki: I don't think I-
[Coulson fires the weapon, blasting Loki through a wall]
Coulson: So that's what it does.

Loki: Please, tell me you're going to appeal to my humanity.
Stark: Uh, actually I'm planning to threaten you.
Loki: You should have left your armour on for that.
Stark: Yeah. It's seen a bit of mileage and you got the "glow-stick of destiny." Would you like a drink?
Loki: Stalling me won't change anything.
Stark: No, no, no threatening! No drink? You sure? I'm having one.
Loki: What have I to fear?
Stark: The Avengers. It's what we call ourselves, sort of like a team. "Earth's Mightiest Heroes" type thing.
Loki: Yes, I've met them.
Stark: Yeah. Takes us a while to get any traction, I'll give you that one. But, let's do a head count here: Your brother, the demigod; a super soldier, a living legend who kind of lives up to the legend; a man with breath-taking anger management issues; a couple of master assassins, and you, big fella, you've managed to piss off every single one of them.
Loki: That was the plan.
Stark: Not a great plan. When they come, and they will, they'll come for you.
Loki: I have an army.
Stark: We have a Hulk.
Loki: I thought the beast had wandered off.
Stark: You're missing the point. There's no throne. There is no version of this where you come out on top. Maybe your army comes, and maybe it's too much for us, but it's all on you. Because, if we can't protect the Earth, you can be damn well sure we'll avenge it.
Loki: But how will your friends have time for me? When they're so busy fighting you! [Loki tries to use his mind control powers from his scepter on Tony Stark, but hits the arc reactor] This usually works. [Tries again, and fails]
Stark: Well, performance issues... [shrugs] Not uncommon, one out of five...

[Captain America is outlining his plan for the Avengers to fight the Chitauri]
Captain America: All right, listen up. Until we can close that portal, our priority's containment. Barton, I want you on that roof, eyes on everything. Call out patterns and strays. Stark, you got the perimeter. Anything gets more than three blocks out, you turn it back or you turn it to ash.
Hawkeye: [to Iron Man] Want to give me a lift?
Iron Man: Right. Better clench up, Legolas. [Iron Man takes Hawkeye up to the roof]
Captain America: Thor, you gotta try and bottleneck that portal. Slow 'em down. You got the lightning. Light the bastards up. [Thor swings his hammer and flies off]
Captain America: [to Black Widow] You and me, we stay here on the ground, keep the fighting here. And Hulk? [pause] Smash! [the Hulk grins and jumps away]

Loki: [To Hulk] Enough! You are, all of you, beneath me! I am a god, you dull creature. And I will not be bullied by—
[Hulk grabs Loki and slams him around like a rag doll, then leaves him face-up on the floor in a crater]
Loki: [whimpers]
Hulk: Puny god. [Walks off]

Stark: [regaining consciousness] What just happened? Please tell me nobody kissed me.
Rogers: We won.
Stark: All right. Yay. All right. Good job, guys. Let's just not come in tomorrow. Let's just take a day. Have you ever tried shawarma? There's a shawarma joint about two blocks from here. I don't know what it is, but I wanna try it.
Thor: This is not over yet...[Looks to the Stark Tower, where Loki is.]
Stark: ...Then shawarma after.

Romanov: [Fighting off the Chitari] This is like Budapest all over again!
Hawkeye: You and I remember Budapest very differently!

1. Ruas jari : PHALANGES

2. Garis Tangan : HAND LINES

3. Lubang hidung : NOSTRIL

4. Bulu hidung : NOSE HAIR

5. Pusar : NAVEL

6. Ubun-ubun : CROWN / FONTANEL

7. Unyeng-unyeng : ???

Apa bahasa Inggrisnya unyeng-unyeng ?

Rudi sent an email to his friend yesterday.

Kalimat pasif adalah kalimat yang Subyeknya dikenai pekerjaan ;

An email was sent to his friend by Rudi yesterday.

  • kata kerja sent pada kalimat aktif, kini berubah menjadi was sent
Beberapa contoh lain :
  • Aktif : The studens help me
  • Pasif : I am helped by the students
  • Aktif : The voice shocks her
  • Pasif : She is shocked by the voice
Jadi pembentukan kalimat pasif dimulai dari subyek kemudian to be + verb 2 (past participle) dilanjutkan dengan by phrase.

Simple present tense
  • She is taught by the teacher
  • Donny is helped by the doctor
  • The letters are wrote by the writer
  • The hair is cut by the hairdresser
  • The homework is done by the student
Simple past tense
  • She was taught by the teacher
  • Donny was helped by the doctor
  • The letters were wrote by the writer
  • The hair was cut by the hairdresser
  • The homework was done by the student
Present perfect tense
  • She has been taught by the teacher
  • Donny has been helped by the doctor
  • The letters have been wrote by the writer
  • The hair has been cut by the hairdresser
  • The homework has been done by the student
Future tense
  • She will be/ is going to be taught by the teacher
  • Donny will helped / is going to behelped by the doctor
  • The letters will be wrote / are going to be wrote by the writer
  • The hair will be cut / is going to be cut by the hairdresser
  • The homework will be done / is going to be done by the student

Rest In Peace : Margareth Thatcher

Today on Monday, April 8 one of the legendary leaders in the world passed away. Margaret Thatcher was Britain's first female prime minister and served three consecutive terms in office. She was one of the dominant political figures of 20th century Britain, and Thatcherism continues to have a huge influence.

Margaret Hilda Roberts was born on 13 October 1925 in Grantham, Lincolnshire, the daughter of a grocer. She went to Oxford University and then became a research chemist, retraining to become a barrister in 1954. In 1951, she married Denis Thatcher, a wealthy businessman, with whom she had two children.
Early political career
Thatcher became a Conservative member of parliament for Finchley in North London in 1959, serving as its MP until 1992. Her first parliamentary post was junior minister for pensions in Harold Macmillan'sgovernment. From 1964 to 1970, when Labour were in power, she served in a number of positions inEdward Heath's shadow cabinet. Heath became prime minister in 1970 and Thatcher was appointed secretary for education.
Leadership
After the Conservatives were defeated in 1974, Thatcher challenged Heath for the leadership of the party and, to the surprise of many, won. In the 1979 general election, the Conservatives came to power and Thatcher became prime minister.
She was an advocate of privatising state-owned industries and utilities, reforming trade unions, lowering taxes and reducing social expenditure across the board. Thatcher's policies succeeded in reducing inflation, but unemployment dramatically increased during her years in power.
The Eighties
Victory in the Falklands War in 1982 and a divided opposition helped Thatcher win a landslide victory in the 1983 general election. In 1984, she narrowly escaped death when the IRA planted a bomb at the Conservative party conference in Brighton.
In foreign affairs, Thatcher cultivated a close political and personal relationship with US president Ronald Reagan, based on a common mistrust of communism, combined with free-market economic ideology. Thatcher was nicknamed the 'Iron Lady' by the Soviets. She warmly welcomed the rise of reformist Soviet leader Mikhail Gorbachev.
In the 1987 general election, Thatcher won an unprecedented third term in office. But controversial policies, including the poll tax and her opposition to any closer integration with Europe, produced divisions within the Conservative Party which led to a leadership challenge. In November 1990, she agreed to resign and was succeeded as party leader and prime minister by John Major.
The end of an era
In 1992, Thatcher left the House of Commons. She was appointed a peeress in the House of Lords with the title of Baroness Thatcher of Kesteven and continued giving speeches and lectures across the world. She also founded the Thatcher Foundation, which aimed to advance the cause of political and economic freedom, particularly in the newly liberated countries of central and eastern Europe. In 1995 she became a member of the Order of the Garter, the highest order of knighthood in England.
After a series of minor strokes, Baroness Thatcher retired from public speaking in 2002. (Source http://www.bbc.co.uk)
To me Margareth Thatcher is a figure who inspiring me about courage, intelligence, and determination. The inspiring leader who affected many people in the world, and along her carrer have made contribution to the change of world history. God Bless her soul. And these are some of her quotes :
"Disciplining yourself to do what you know is right and important, altough difficult, is the highroad to pride, self esteem, and personal satisfaction"
"What is success ? I thinks it is a mixture of having a flair for the thing that you are doing, knowing that it is not enough, that you have got to have hard work and a certain sense of purpose"

English conversation 7 : Informal and formal introducing

1.Memperkenalkan diri (Introduce yourself)

Percakapan informal :
  • Hi, I am ......
  • Hello, my name is ......
Percakapan formal :
  • Hello, I don't think we've met. Let me introduce myself. My name is ....
  • Good Morning / afternoon / evening. Allow me to introduce myself. My name is .....
2. Memperkenalkan orang lain (Introduce someone else)

Percakapan informal :
  • This is my (nephew, brother, tacher, father, etc) .............(name)
Percakapan formal :
  • May I introduce my colleague ..........(name)
  • Allow me to introduce my colleague ............(name)
  • I would like you to meet my colleague, ...............(name)
3. Menjawab sebuah perkenalan (What we say after introduction)
Percakapan informal :
  • Hi....., nice to meet you >>>>> answer : nice to meet you too
  • Hello.....Iam happy to meet you >>>>> answer : Lovely to meet you too
Percakapan formal :
  • How do you do ..........>>>>> answer : How do you do
  • It's a pleasure to meet you ......>>>>> answer : I am very pleased to meet you.
4. Menyapa seseorang yang sebelumnya telah diperkenalkan (How to greet someone you know)

Percakapan informal :
  • Hi ......how are you ? >>>>> answer : Fine thank, and you ?
  • Hello..... How are you doing ? >>>>> answer : Great, thanks. How about you ?
Percakapan formal :
  • Good morning ........How are you today ? >>>>> answer : I am very well, thank you. And you ?
  • Hello ....... It's nice to see you again. >>>>> answer : And you.
pada contoh percakapan formal di atas terdapat dua kata "and you". Yang pertama menggunakan tanda tanya yang mengembalikan pertanyaan, sedangkan yang ke dua tidak memakai tanda tanya, karena pernyataannya adalah "it's nice to see you again" dan jawabannya adalah sebuah pernyataan : And you.artinya : demikian juga saya.

5. Mengucapkan salam ketika hendak berpisah.

Percakapan informal :
  • I must go. Catch you later. >>>>> answer : see you later. Bye
  • I'll be off now. Speak to you later.>>>>> answer : Sure, take care.
Percakapan formal :
  • Goodbye. It has been a pelasure meeting you. >>>>> answer : The pleasure is mine. I hope to see you again soon.
  • I must be on my way. It was nice seeing you again.>>>>> answer : Likewise. I look orward to seeing you again soon.

Selamat berlatih.
Nb : tanda titik-titik selalu berisi sebuah nama.

Kita jarang ditanya "can you speak english?"

  1. Jika anda melihat sebuah benda, sedapat mungkin lihatlah benda tersebut sebagaimana adanya benda tersebut, sedapat mungkin jangan pikirkan namanya dalam bahasa Indonesia.
  2. Kemudian dekati benda tersebut dan katakan "what is this ?'
Atau anda bisa mengatakan "this is not priring, this is a plate !" jadinya memang agak lucu dan aneh :) tapi tidak apa-apa dalam rangka belajar.
